I have been a big fan of Scottish micro brewery BrewDog and their playfulness in social media. Interesting product ideas together with great use of online video made for a nice marketing concept.
But with the latest video I think they have gone to far in this clown act, focusing too much on marketing and trying to be funny rather than being genuine and speaking to craft beer lovers. In craft beer the community and the product quality are the two key successfactors. But perhaps they want to get out of the craft beer scene and target the lowest common denominator with this slapstick humor and join the ranks of Budweiser and Carlsberg?

Here is a great episode that shows you how hops travel from the field into the brewing process and as a bonus, 7:15 minutes into this video there is a man literally diving into a montain of hops. Don’t miss this!

There are so many exciting brands in this category like for instance Flying Dog Brewery who are one of the best brands right now when it comes to utilizing social media tools. They also have great names for all their products like these:
This morning I saw an episide of Still Crazy After All These Beers and I got acquainted with a jewish brewery in the States called Schmaltz Brewery. They are specialized in jewish celebration craft beer with a twist. Check out this video with one of their sales managers who is also creative director and has design their graphical profile. It’s just plain brilliant.
